Canadian company LiveHive Systems launched what it calls a Social Engagement Index on Aug. 18. The index is designed to measure how much viewers are socially engaging with a program while they watch.
The Wilmington-made teen drama series made the top spot on the new scale.
The top five shows on the Social Engagement Index, or SEI, for 2009:
1. "One Tree Hill" (SEI Rating: 24.3)
2. "90210" (SEI Rating: 14.1)
3. "Jon and Kate Plus 8" (SEI Rating: 8.2)
4. "Desperate Housewives" (SEI Rating: 7.0)
5. "So You Think You Can Dance" (SEI Rating: 6.0)
According to www.LiveHiveSystems.com, rankings are determined through a formula which accounts for in-show social activity online and is compared
against the total viewing audience.
"One Tree Hill's" No. 1 spot on the index can be attributed to "the combination of a story format that is well suited to active social discussion and interactivity, and a demographic that gravitates to multiplatform media consumption," according to the Web site.
